Analysis of Biomechanical Characteristics of External Fixators with Steel and Composite Frames during Anterior–Posterior Bending

This paper presents a comparative analysis of the biomechanical characteristics an external fixator with frame made two different materials (stainless steel and composite material) during anterior–posterior bending. Before test itself, representative configurations Sarafix were selected for application on lower leg upper extremities under designations B50 C50, which are most widely used in orthopedic practice. The examination was carried out using structural construction performance finite element method, results verified through experimental tests. developed FEM models study movement fracture crack enable determination stiffness designs as well control generated stresses at characteristic locations fixator. show that carbon has critical points compared to frame, amount up 49% (at measuring point MT+) or 46% MT−) both fixture configurations. greater displacements site 45% (for configuration B50) 31% C50). structure is by 27%. Based findings this study, we can conclude better frame.
